Let's Bee-Bop: Weekly Newsletter
Beach Blanket Bee-Bop, UA's Acting & Musical Theatre Senior Showcase, It Is Magic, and more!
This Week’s Tucson Theatre Highlights:
Beach Blanket Bee-Bop at The Gaslight Theatre
“Summer time in Surfside, California means hitting the beach, catching a wave, or a visit to the boardwalk. It's the 1960's; the sun always shines and the surf is always up. However, the dark clouds are forming on the horizon. Greedy developers threaten to demolish this very way of life. Can they be stopped? Will there be fun, romance and music along the way? Find out in Beach Blanket Bebop, it's the swingin'est, surfin'est show yet!” (The Gaslight Theatre).
This humorous production is showing through June 1st at The Gaslight Theatre. Tickets are available at thegaslighttheatre.com.
“With a robust cast of nine actors, BEACH BLANKET BEE BOP is packed with energy and laughs, and it does not let up until the final curtain. Song choices are perfect for the time period, and the audience was even able to sing along.” -Zach Wetzel, BroadwayWorld Arizona

It Is Magic at The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre
“From the brilliantly twisted mind of Mickle Maher (There is A Happiness That Morning Is) comes a new dark comedy that challenges the limits of the theatre’s magic while mashing up the curse of the audition, The Three Little Pigs and, curiously enough, Macbeth. At a community theatre audition for a new ‘adult adaptation’ of the Three Little Pigs, two sisters set out to search for an actor to play the role of the Wolf. As they struggle to cast the right actor, they are quickly confronted with the darkness inside the audition room– and themselves” (The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre).
The fourth play in Scoundrel & Scamp’s MacFestival runs through April 20th. Tickets and more information are available at scoundrelandscamp.org.
“Not since my time in LA have I seen something so bold, so uncomfortable (in a good way), and so engaging. This play was superbly directed.” -Zach Wetzel, BroadwayWorld Arizona
Little Women from the University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television
“Set during the Civil War, Louisa May Alcott’s timeless American novel is vibrantly musicalized to stunning effect. We follow Jo, Beth, Meg, and Amy as they navigate life in all its adventures and trials. Six generations have read this story. This one will sing it” (University of Arizona).
Discounted tickets for this weekend’s preview performance at the Marroney Theatre are available. The production opens on April 24th. Tickets and more information can be found at tftv.arizona.edu.
“I've got the key to my castle in the air, but whether I can unlock the door remains to be seen.” -Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
